Damages and Effects

There were reports from all over the Bay Area and the Central Valley. Most sources said that the intensity was mild to moderate. There have been no reports of injuries till now. Bay Area Rapid Transit announced up to 20-minute delays after the shocks. Damage inspection was carried out on the bay lines.

Geological Explanation
The earthquake struck between two faults: Concord and Pittsburg-Kirby Hills.
While the San Andreas and Hayward faults get all the publicity, these two faults can also cause severe damage. Pittsburg is situated on the Pittsburg-Kirby Hills fault, which flows across Pittsburg to the north. The 11-mile-long Concord Fault stretches from the Carquinez Strait to the slopes of Mount Diablo. They run beneath several houses as well as a critical fuel-dispensing factory.

Aside from Concord (8 miles), Vallejo (15 miles), and Walnut Creek (13 miles), the impact was also felt in Fairfield (12 miles), New York of the Pacific (6 miles), Antioch (11 miles), and Martinez (9 miles). Many people in the San Francisco Bay Area took to Twitter to report feeling tremors. A San Francisco resident wrote, "No need for alarms as a tremendous 4.1 magnitude quake wakes up the San Francisco Bay Area early today."
According to USGS, the tremor should not have caused significant damage, but many residents in the epicenter area may felt a little shake.
